Day-2-Day benefits fall under the consumer Ombud.




What is the difference between Medical Aid and Medical Insurance?


Medical Aid Medical Insurance
Based on tariff codes and procedures. Based on stated event and specific procedure costs.
Cannot reject applications due to age or pre-existing conditions; must cover certain procedures by law (Medical Schemes Act). Can reject applicants due to age and add exclusions for specific or high-risk procedures.
Often has shortfalls (gaps between costs and cover). May be used as gap cover to cover shortfalls.
Does not have to disclose the amount payable for the procedure covered. Provides a defined lump sum amount for a specific event happening.
